Was shopping around Copely Place and have heard that Legal Sea Foods is a staple in Boston. The restaurant itself is well kept and the ambiance is a bit noisy. The decor and lighting is wonderful. I really enjoyed the bkue accents and ceiling fixtures. Service was great as the waitress sat me down immediately even though I was ordering to go. Super friendly! I came in the morning and decided to try their New England Chowder. This was fantastic as the clam chowder was thick and consistent. I'm really against clam chowder that is too salty but this was fantastic! As expected it came with oyster crackers as well. I would recommend anyone to try this. I also got the Boston Creme Pie but didn't really care too much for it. It was extremely sweet and the cake itself was very dry. I wouldn't get it again. Overall, a great experience!

Friends in the area wanted to connect here--had never been but also knew it was a Boston institution. Well appointed, comfortable, relaxed. Service was attentive not fussy. All of those attributes were solid. What about the food? Everyone in my group was pleased and filled. Two crab rolls were gobbled up--both glad they could Sun out the fries for a veggie. Fish and chips were solid, crunchy and hot. My lobster roll, old style with light mayo, was generous. And I liked the fries! Not a great beer list or wine list but, hey, it's a family gathering type of place. And that's why we were there!

There's a reason why Legal Seafood is a must-stop whenever I'm in Boston. I just find it an accessible place to get decent seafood without paying an exorbitant price. There's been plenty of times where I thought a more hyped-up seafood joint would provide a mind-blowing experience, only to find it average in terms of quality food and occasional quality service. But Legal never lets me down. It's consistently comfortable and comforting. And I always love the food here. Sure, it's not an independent company and is very much a chain. But that just means whatever location you go to you're going to have a good meal.

Service: 5 Food: 3 Atmosphere: 4 Our server was great, really attentive and friendly, and our waters were always kept filled. We had a great view of Copley Square. The main complaint I had about the atmosphere was that the air conditioning was blasting so high that we were freezing! For the price point, I was disappointed with the food. My older kids had sushi, which they liked but I thought it was less than stellar. My husband had blackened scallops, which were pretty good, and my middle daughter had baked haddock which was pretty good. My youngest had a kids meal with pasta and fries and she was VERY happy with it. I had a crab cake appetizer (which comes with a salad) and a side of curried vegetables. For being one of their signature dishes, I was disappointed with the crab cake. The salad that came with it was probably the best thing I ate. The curried vegetables, which consisted of cauliflower, carrots and chickpeas, was also a disappointment, dry and lacking flavor. If the price point was lower, I think I would have been ok with the meal, but for paying over $200, this was overall a disappointment.

This visit to Boston I went to this restaurant three times! Lol Alyson and Eli took care of me on 2 occasions and they were kind and attentive. I truly appreciate that. Of course I had clam chowder since the weather has been a bit chilly. I enjoyed the pei mussels and black magic oysters!! The scallops on top of whipped sweet potatoes were delicious too!! Great experience!

  • Signature Dishes: The New England Clam Chowder has received rave reviews for its thick and creamy consistency, served with traditional oyster crackers for that authentic touch. Pair it with crispy fish and chips or a delectable lobster roll for a quintessential New England experience.
  • Vegetarian Options: With a range of vegetarian dishes readily available, even non-seafood eaters will find enjoyable choices. The curried vegetables, while sometimes noted as lacking in flavor, can be a fresh addition for those looking to diversify their meal.
  • Desserts to Indulge: Don’t leave without trying the New York Cheesecake or the classic Boston Cream Pie, although opinions on the pie can vary. For a unique twist, consider the Espresso Martini, a liquid dessert that promises to elevate your evening.
